In the early 2000s a new style was very popular: low-rise huge jeans, crop tops, and thongs. People of both sexes wore low-rise jeans that were intentionally cut lower on the waist, thus covering less body on front (the belly) and the back. Low-cut dresses and shirts that showed off women’s cleavage were very popular among teenagers. Baggy jeans, which had been popularized by rap and Hip Hop music, were popular again in men’s fashion. Simultaneously, fashion began to resemble 80's styles, and Punk was one of the major trends throughout the decade. The Goth look, whose main characteristic was the use of dark clothes, was another style in vogue during this period.
Bell bottoms that had first come in during the 60s were fashionable again during this period. Also in vogue were miniskirts- frequently combined with leggings, - long tiered skirts and ripped jeans. Clothing of African and Jamaican colors was very much the mode. Gangsta and Punk styles were very fashionable among young people, and there was a new tendency towards mixing-up fashions from past decades with new styles. Modern Punk fashion, for instance, absorbed elements from many other similar fashions, most notably Heavy Metal. One of the most common elements in every form of Punk fashion was a t-shirt with a printed logo of a music group. Modern punks usually wore leather, denim, spikes, chains, and combat boots.
Designer jeans started being popular in the 00s, as well as vintage looking clothes and ripped and washed jeans. During 2005 there was a revival of lace clothing, which had been in vogue during the 30s. Once more fashion imitated styles from the past and adapted them to the needs and likes of curret customers. At the beginning of 2006, designers such as Benito Fernández revived knitted skirts with tulle, corsets with fretwork and lace linings. Today the trend is towards pastel colors and black in combination with white. Designer Carlos Di Doménico has introduced clothing with laces, broderie, point laces, silk jersey, cotton and black and white dresses with flounces. All sorts of skirts are in style, and also Bermuda shorts and ankle-length trousers. Overalls of flowery patterns with dark backgrounds are the mode. Frocks and skirts have a lot of details such as ruffles, pleats, darts and petticoats.
Designers Lupe and Pilar Posse have paid homenage to the 70s by combining pop and bohemian styles to launch a new collection of clothing for today′s customers. Very important in this trend are patterned textiles with drawings of hearts, feathers and psicholdelic or abstract shapes. These patterns are very common in gabardine shorts, hooded jackets and silk full frocks of different length. Popular colors are violet, fucsia, red, green, chocolate, black and beige. During the night people wear strapless and wide-waisted minikirts made of several layers of fabric with wide belts. Retro frocks came in again, and bateau necks- which have been á la mode during the seventies –revive in today’s fashion.
There is a revival of 80s, masculine and rock and roll styles. New patterns appear, and also striped sweaters made of lúrex, overalls, enteritos, Bermuda shorts and other summer clothing. Big full t-shirts are used with leggings, trousers, tubular skirts and jean overalls. A new modern and sporting version of corsets appears, and is worn with shorts or pleated skirts. Clothing is mainly of shiny colors and Caribbean patterns.
